One of my goals this year was to speak on a Podcast and get past my anxiety of speaking and building in public – this is how it came about this past week!
I’ve always been a bit of an introvert and to feature on a Podcast was always going to be a bit of a struggle for me from a motivation point of view. So I decided that this year I would try and break out of that and publicly state that I wanted to go on a Podcast. To the extent that I wrote a post my 2022 Goals and I’m providing regular updates:
CollabClub Discussion on the WBE Podcast
Technically I’ve been on a few Twitter Spaces before as I participated in the #GOF1 sessions that were held towards the end of 2021 – but that was really just to ask questions, and were focused on onw of my passions Formula 1 and not work!
Specifically in the goals I stated that I wanted to join one of the Wannabe Entrepreneurs Podcast which is hosted by Tiago. I said this as I thought it was a much more achievable goal and something that I could work towards to. Now I didn’t actually think that I’d speak on it this soon into the year – I thought I’d have to have something a bit more to show before being invited on. But Tiago asked me (without much notice!) to have a quick 10-15 minute chat and that he was going to put it into his usual Tuesday Podcast.
Now the episode itself is one of Tiago’s regular project update Podcasts – where he covers a few different items, so there are some different things in there and the title suggests a totally different topic. You can hear the introduction to me and the CollabClub project from 14:45 in the Podcast.
I had a few technical problems to start – my setup didn’t seem to like the tool that Tiago was using to record, which did unsettle me a little and to be honest I wasn’t prepared for the Podcast at all. So all of the conversation on my end is just off the top of my head, but it comes across better than I expected -except for Tiago trying to nail down whether I thought we’re going to succeed or not!
I think I have to work a little bit on how I come across and mumble less as some of it isn’t totally clear in the audio. I should also try and remove some “ums”! I’ve presented in front of 100’s of people before in conferences but a Podcast is very different and people like Tiago that have been doing it for a while make it look easy 😀
Tiago is a very genuine Podcast host and talks about all of his ups and downs so I’d recommend having a listen of not just mine but the other episodes too:
Twitter Spaces – Podcast
One of my other goals this year is to host a Twitter space, not as a speaker or just joining in another I actually want to Host it. Now this is likely going to be a Q3/Q4 target as I don’t think I’ll realistically have time before then.
In terms of topics – I was thinking of something along the following lines:
- Product Hunt – talking about tips/tricks, launches of the week etc. – there used to be a PH radio Podcast that stopped so I’m a little wary that it didn’t succeed for a reason….
- Partnering and Working together – something along the lines of partnering to success. I’m a strong believe in diversity and I prefer being part of a team than being on my own so this could be a really good passion area for me
- A regular guest Podcast on Indie Hacking – not sure if there is space for another?!
I would definitely run the Podcast through Twitter Spaces and convert into a Podcast format post the space as it just makes so much sense! I’m not sure why this hasn’t really been done as yet.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on how I came across in the Podcast and your thoughts about my Twitter Spaces idea.
